It’s the next phase in the NBA 2K League’s rapid expansion that NBA 2K League Managing Director Brendan Donohue NBA 2K22 MT, described to me recently on a phone call as “transformational”.
This season, the third season of the NBA 2K Series, saw a big jump in viewership and distribution of broadcasts. “Just taking a look at apples to apples just our broadcasts on Twitch is growing by more than 70% from year to year,” Donohue outlines, “and in addition to that we added numerous distributors around the world, including ESPN 2.” Live games were shown on ESPN2 as well as ESPN’s digital platforms, Sportsnet in Canada and on delay in the eGG Network in Southeast Asia and Loco in India this was the first broadcasts of 2K League games on linear television.
The total of ESPN2 was able to host 29 nights of broadcasts over the season, and every NBA 2K League match on ESPN’s platforms also broadcast live across the Caribbean, Latin America, Oceania and Sub-Saharan Africa. The exclusive viewership of ESPN2 and Twitch viewers combined with the unique Twitch viewers and the NBA 2K League attracted more than one million viewers every time it was shown.
Twitch alone witnessed more than 1.1 million people watch the NBA 2K League Finals in which the Wizards Gaming team defeated the Warriors Gaming Squad, 3-1. “As you’re seeing in gaming and esports in general, you can see incredible growth across all platforms and we definitely benefited from that Buy NBA 2K Coins” Donohue elaborated.
